Despitea drastic slowdown in the last three months of the year 2008 sales were up7% compared to 2007 and net income was up 16%. GM’s Sales Chief in Europe Sees Strength in Key Markets

Henderson envisions GM Europe operating like the company’s Daewoo operation in Korea. Daewoo develops and produces fuel-efficient smaller cars for all of GM’s markets but is only partially owned by GM. Meanwhile the head of GM sales in Europe said the auto maker is boosting sales in key markets across the continent including a 14% year-to-year jump in Germany last month. Brent Dewar also speaking from the sidelines of the auto show said that sales are gaining momentum in several markets where governments have decided to reward consumers who turn in older cars for new ones. In Germany for example consumers with vehicles nine years or older can receive a €2500 incentive if they turn the old car in for a new one he said. Dewar estimates 600000 people are eligible for that incentive.
