The poor economy is playing a major role in Wal-Mart’s success as its largeshare of staples like food and health products were the best performingcategories in February. But discretionary products also strengthened with electronics ranging fromflat-screen televisions to digital cameras one of the strongest growing groupsin stores. Wal-Mart’s same-store sales performance in February titanic in proportion tomost other retailers is strengthening the case that the retailer will remain apopular place to shop even when the recession ends.
