2% during the quarter. This decline reflects the combination of the lower margin Corporate Express business partially offset by purchasing synergies. SG&A leveraged 79 basis points versus last year?s first quarter to 20. The lower SG&A at Corporate Express as well as reduced marketing spend drove this change. This improvement was somewhat offset by labor expense de-leverage in our retail business. Including the impact of the lower margin Corporate Express business and excluding integration and restructuring expense adjusted operating income declined 133 basis points for the quarter to $306 million or 5.

Radakovich said premium seating and suites have traditionally sold well and there was not a need for Aspire to run that program. Most of those seats are allotted through Georgia Tech’s donor program the Tech Fund and will continue to be handled by that arm of the department. The outsourcing of ticket sales follows the trend of major universities selling their licensing sponsorship and broadcasting rights to outside marketing agencies like Learfield Nelligan. Georgia Tech’s marketing and media rights are owned by ISP Sports.

But this trend may ebb later this year when the “affordable” ultra-thin laptop category takes off leading to a cannibalization reversal of sorts. Christian Morales Intel’s European sales chief said Netbook sales were about 16 percent of all notebook sales globally and a little higher in Western Europe.

To begin I would like to thank and congratulate all our AutoZoners for their efforts that led to us achieving our 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit EPS growth. It is the dedication and commitment of our AutoZoners across the company that makes us successful. For the quarter we experienced significant growth with domestic same store sales increasing 7. 4% following last quarter?s 6% and EPS increasing 26% our best performance since the second quarter of fiscal 2004. As we have stated on many occasions we believe our business is not inherently cyclical in nature and given the ongoing macroenvironment challenges facing the global economy we believe AutoZone is well positioned to help our customers effectively maintain their vehicles at a great value. We believe we can make a material difference in helping both our retail and commercial customers save money and time by doing the job right the first time. We believe both the headwinds and tailwinds facing our retail commercial customers have not changed over the last few months.

8 million or 41 cents per share a year ago. Without discontinued operations the year-ago loss came to $900000 or 1 cent per share. The company’s quarterly net sales tumbled 16 percent to $538. 1 million while same-store sales or sales at stores open at least a year fell 13 percent. Same-store sales are a key indicator of retailer performance since they measure growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones. Charming Shoppes noted that the company also shuttered 162 stores during the last year. “While our performance for the first quarter reflected a difficult retail environment and did exceed our earnings guidance our results were nevertheless disappointing” said President and Chief Executive Jim Fogarty in a statement.
Chrysler’s Ad Hack Case

sorry but somebody needs to tell Chrysler what to do. Its management has been dreadful ever since it parted company with Daimler in 2007. It’s new management is only now taking shape. The bamastration may not know much about the auto business or automotive marketing but it can bring some common sense to the table. By representing the taxpayer?s stake it has to steer the Chrysler-Fiat alliance toward success. Two months of advertising wouldn?t necessarily help to achieve that goal. But two months of funds squandered on irrelevant messages could impede it.
