Home Depot raises full-year profit forecasts

the world’s largest home-improvement retailer raised its profit forecasts for the year Wednesday based on improvements in customer service and merchandise assortment as well as lower costs. In an interview Chief Financial fficer Carol Tome said sales in May the company’s biggest selling month of the year exceeded its expectations — boosted by demand for outdoor products from plants and mulch to grills and lower-priced patios.

A 42-day stay in bankruptcy court cleansed the company of much of its debt and labor costs but many analysts say Chrysler’s immediate future is bleak. It lost $8 billion in 2008 and sales are down by almost half for the first five months of this year. Chrysler has few new vehicles headed to its drastically reduced network of dealers. Its aging model lineup is still heavy with bigger vehicles and its offerings in the growing small and midsize markets haven’t caught on. Meanwhile small cars designed by new Italian parent Fiat Group SpA won’t make it to U.

Bobcats hire Cowboys employee to lead ticket sales

(AP) — The Charlotte Bobcats have hired another former NFL employee in hopes of boosting attendance. The team on Wednesday announced Todd Fleming will take over as vice president of ticket sales. Fleming had spent the past two seasons as a sales manager with the Dallas Cowboys. Before that Fleming worked in the NBA with Cleveland Miami and New Jersey. Fleming will report to new chief marketing officer Pete Guelli who came to the team in April after working for the Buffalo Bills. The Bobcats ranked 26th out of 30 teams in average attendance last season and has consistently lost money.

While Quicken dominated in retail sales Microsoft landed some key deals with banks and was able to get many computer makers to pre-load Money on new PCs. Robbie Cape who ran the Money business from 1999-2001 said that while the company could keep pace on the software end it could never duplicate Intuit’s marketing prowess or its dominance of the retail market.

Increases reported for Nigeria (71600 MT including 25000 MT switched from unknown destinations) the Philippines (68000 MT) Colombia (47000 MT) Thailand (40000 MT) South Korea (37900 MT) and Indonesia (35000 MT) were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (27000 MT) and Guatemala (9900 MT). Exports for the period May 29-31 of 347200 MT brought accumulated exports to 25973000 MT down 20 percent from the prior year’s total of 32563500 MT. The primary destinations were China (57800 MT) the Philippines (56900 MT) South Korea (44800 MT) Japan (43300 MT) Mexico (42500 MT) and Nigeria (36200 MT).
